'Northern Legacy' - Graphic Print
I am a graphic artist who specialises in screenprinting and book making. The relationship between music and design is often a driving force in my creative practice.
My current work is inspired by the key members who made this era so iconic. Generations of Mancunians have been inspired by the legacy of 1978, despite some never stepping foot inside The Haçienda itself. The likes of Ian Curtis and Tony Wilson deserve 'legend' status, yet there were many more who contributed to the iconic sounds and symbolic visuals that are idolised the world over. For almost 40 years, the city's stronghold on music and culture has been retrospectively celebrated in cinema and literature, uncovering these people who's service moulded a city, an industry and entire generations to come. Would Factory Records have been the same without it's minimal, industrial, graphic identity or the cult record sleeves that now grace our walls as works of art?
The first in the Northern Legacy series is Peter Saville.
