'Untitled' - Painting

"I feel that the themes I am currently exploring will transgress very well into Manchester's student scenes, The street culture and music/club scene particularly, is something I feel I have a strong connection with. One thing I have missed greatly about England while study abroad is the student mentality of cities in places such as Leeds and Manchester. For the exhibition I propose to spend the weekend in Manchester making sketches, photographs and videos ready to come back to Leeds and create the paintings. These paintings will  reveal what I feel appeals to the new generation of students in England in particular music and fashion."

In an age where the art scene in dominated by conceptual approaches and new technologies, as a painter I am constantly questioning why it is so that I always chose to return to a medium that is labelled as 'out dated.'I feel painting is one of the few mediums that an artist has very little control over. Very often I do not understand why I chose to paint something until I have experienced the process of creating itThe theme of my most recent paintings is to naively romanticise the every day life, the simple task of me drawing in a bar, a café or a restaurant can be created into something visually stimulating for the viewer. I paint in a flat neo expressionist style using contemporary colour ranges, treating the paintings' scenes both poetically and grotesquely to make what the average person would find boring, interesting.I also enjoy exploring aspects of per formative art and working collaboratively as I feel working on only one means of expression can restrict your practice.
