'Manchester :: A Musical Time-lapse' - Collage and Illustration

"Collage on wood. Combination of images reflecting the diversity and range of musical influences spawned from the metropolis of Manchester. "

Manchester is widely regarded as one of the most innovative cities in the United Kingdom. Music is an integral element in the cultural machine, that is evident in the divergent sounds reproduced by Manchester. Like a carousel, many different artists and genres move in unison, creating some of the most beloved music in the world today, and adored by the consumers who crave more. Contrasting styles has given the scene a paramount variance that I feel has been embraced by the masses. The genres have spanned the test of time, particularly the areas of Rock'n'Roll and Electronica. Rock'n'Roll churning out artists such as The Smiths and The Stone Roses contrasting with The Chemical Brothers and Mr Scruff in electronica, its clear to see how Manchester have made a gargantuan stamp in international music. The Haçienda and Sankeys amongst others, are two infamous venues that have provided a benchmark for the public to become one with the music that keep them going forward. This piece is a celebration of all of these things, and a opportunity for all of these artists to come together and recognised for moment in history

My venture in the world of art was generated through doodling and etching on old school books to spray painting on walls. I found it as a infatuating hobby, and was interested in artistic techniques but never fully considered about pursuing it as a life choice. Until a art master at my school, explained to me simply as an artist you do what the average joe doesn't you see the beauty in things around you, become immersed in them and thus want to create moments or things that match the beauty of the world around us. After that I was hooked. I went on to do art at A-Level and then gained an Unconditional Acceptance into Leeds Metropolitan University to study Contemporary Art Practices BA (Hons). My craft has developed and has spawned into different mediums such as Photography, Digital Manipulation and Collage. I have done work that has been showcased by Swedish House Mafia, designed male clothing and on the occasion still Assist on Shoots for GQ Magazine.
